Giovanni Battista Granata

Giovanni Battista Granata (1620/21 in Bologna – 1687) was an Italian classical guitarist and composer. By profession, Granata was a barber-surgeon.

Granata was born in Turin and became the most prolific guitarist of the seventeenth century, with seven published books. His early books contain solo guitar music in tablature, while his later books also contain the occasional piece with basso continuo. In particular, his fifth book (1674) begins with twelve pieces for guitar, continuo, and violin.
